Remote Work CRASH is Coming! (And No One is Prepared)
The US Remote Work Collapse is coming. And it could result in a big Economic and Housing Crash across America. Especially in certain cities.
Over 30% of job applications are now to remote positions according to data from LinkedIn. That’s over 10x higher than pre-pandemic levels. But these jobs are going to certain cities more than others. Bend, OR, Asheville, NC, and Cape Coral, FL lead the way in having the most remote work jobs.
Florida in general ranks highly. North Port/Sarasota, Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville also all rank in the Top 20 for Remote Work jobs. Perhaps not so coincidentally – the Housing Markets in these cities have boomed over the last 18 months as more and more people flee expensive, coastal cities.
But there’s a problem with remote work – and it’s that supervisors/managers don’t like it. Over 70% of supervisors say it’s easier to manage employees in the office. While over 40% say they sometimes forget about remote workers when assigning tasks.
On top of that – corporations around America are now dealing with sky-high rates of job quitting (the Great Resignation) to go along with increased wage pressures. The bedrock is laid for many of the companies to take “Remote Work” to the next logical step and outsource these jobs to countries such as India, Ukraine, and Nigeria.
You can think of remote work in America as a form of outsourcing. During the pandemic many remote jobs were “outsourced” from tech hubs like San Francisco to cities like Raleigh and Austin. But soon I suspect many of these jobs will be outsourced out of the country.
